Double Cleansing Kit

Your Double Cleansing Kit follows the Japanese beauty principle of double cleansing, featuring gentle, certified, and natural-based formulas. It contains the Ofuro Cleansing Oil (first step) and the Awa Soft Cleansing Mousse.

The practice of double cleansing is, in every sense, the foundation for achieving more radiant and even-toned skin, reducing impurities and the “dull complexion” effect. It was introduced by geishas hundreds of years ago to effectively remove their signature white-based makeup (shironuri), and remains to this day the first fundamental pillar of the J-beauty ritual.

Many impurities accumulate on the face by the end of the day (makeup, sunscreen, smog residue, sebum, sweat, etc.): a mix of fat-soluble and water-soluble impurities. Double cleansing—with an initial oil-based step followed by a water-based step—ensures thorough and effective cleansing of the skin without stripping or drying it out, improving skin texture, reducing clogged pores, and brightening a dull complexion.

With Bonbori, you can perform double cleansing with effective yet gentle products that remove makeup and cleanse while respecting your skin’s lipid balance, without dehydrating it.

The Double Cleansing Kit contains:

Step 1 - Awa Soft Cleansing Mousse - 100 ml

Step 2 - Ofuro Cleansing Oil - 100 ml

Ofuro Cleansing Oil > removes makeup from the skin in just a few moments, while maintaining its natural lipid balance. It effectively targets fat-soluble impurities such as makeup (including waterproof formulas), sebum, and sunscreen. It leaves your face soft and hydrated (without that annoying “tight skin” feeling caused by overly harsh makeup removers and cleansers)!

Awa Soft Cleansing Mousse > is as fresh and delicate as a cloud. It cleanses the face of water-soluble impurities (dust, smog, and other residues) without drying out the skin, ensuring an effective and thorough double-cleansing routine.

1. Why is double cleansing “better” than a single cleansing step?

A. Many impurities accumulate on the face by the end of the day (makeup, sunscreen, smog residue, sebum, sweat, etc.): a mix of fat-soluble and water-soluble impurities. Double cleansing—with an initial oil-based step followed by a water-based step—ensures a more thorough and effective cleanse without stripping or drying out the skin, improving its texture, reducing clogged pores, and brightening a dull complexion.

2. When should you perform double cleansing?

A. When you wear makeup or have applied sunscreen, it’s recommended to perform double cleansing to benefit from more efficient cleansing.
In the morning, however, double cleansing isn’t necessary: simply rinsing your face with water or using a single cleansing step will suffice, depending on your preferences and skin type.

3. Is double cleansing suitable for combination/oily skin?

A. It all depends on the type of formulations used. Two harsh cleansing products, containing strong surfactants and with very strong “degreasing” properties, are certainly not suitable for combination or oily skin. Conversely, a double cleansing routine is highly recommended for combination or oily skin, starting with an oil-based cleanser—free of strong surfactants and non-comedogenic (such as Ofuro Cleansing Oil)—that works by affinity on sebaceous skin without having an excessively “degreasing” effect, thereby maintaining the skin’s lipid balance. This way, the skin will not feel the need to produce excess sebum to rebalance itself. Furthermore, the oil-based step, when thoroughly massaged into a dry face, can help reduce or manage the presence of sebaceous filaments and, over time, reduce the occurrence of blackheads.

4. Is double cleansing suitable for dry skin?

A. Double cleansing—with an initial oil-based step followed by a water-based step—ensures thorough and effective cleansing of the skin without irritating or drying it out: essential conditions for skin that is already dry. Of course, what makes the difference are the formulations used in the double cleansing routine: they must be effective yet gentle, free of harsh surfactants, and respect your face’s hydrolipidic balance.

5. I’ve noticed that Ofuro Cleansing Oil stings my eyes—why is that?

A. Ofuro is a cleansing oil of natural origin, including the surfactant it contains. Its lipid-based nature and the type of surfactant may cause a slight stinging sensation when it comes into contact with the eye’s mucous membrane, but this poses no risk to eye health. To use the product correctly, massage Ofuro Cleansing Oil onto your dry face with dry hands until the makeup dissolves, keeping your eyes tightly closed. Only then should you add water to rinse, being careful not to let the product—which has become more liquid due to the water—run into your eyes, which should remain closed.

SCOPRI IL RITUALE DI DOPPIA DETERSIONE

STEP 1 - OFURO CLEANSING OIL

STEP 2 - AWA CLEANSING MOUSSE

Utilizzo

We recommend performing the Double Cleanse in the evening, when you need to remove makeup and sunscreen effectively and thoroughly.

Here’s how to do it: Massage Ofuro Cleansing Oil onto your dry face using dry hands. Keep your eyes closed to prevent the cleansing oil from accidentally coming into contact with your eye mucosa when removing eye makeup (nothing serious will happen, but it might cause a slight burning sensation due to its low affinity with the eye’s natural lipids). Focus on the areas where you need to remove makeup, such as your lips if you’re wearing lipstick, and on all other areas where you want the initial oil phase to work (for example, areas with a high concentration of sebaceous glands, if those are a concern for you).
Next, rinse Ofuro off with room-temperature water and finish cleansing with Awa Soft Cleansing Mousse without rubbing too vigorously (a gentle, quick swipe with your hands will suffice). Rinse your entire face thoroughly and pat it dry with a clean towel.
